{Blogmas} My Fave Five Christmas Movies

One of the best ways to get into the Christmas spirit is watching holiday movies! It’s so lovely to cuddle up under a blanket with a loved one, drink hot chocolate, and settle in for a festive movie. My family used to pull every single Christmas movie we owned off the shelf each December and start watching each and every one. We’d take turns picking one each night until we were only left with the ones nobody actually wanted to watch. A few got picked over and over again, and they’ve become my staples that make it really feel like Christmas. Here are five of my all time favorites:

5. Miracle on 34th Street

This move is such a classic, it had to make the list. It has elements of family and of course, lots of romance. Plus it stars Mara Wilson as a six-year-old, so what’s not to love. If your parents ever made you sit through the very old, black-and-white original 1947 version of this movie like mine did, you’ll certainly have a new appreciation for this version.

4. Love Actually

This one is a little bit more recent, but surely a classic to anyone who has seen it at least one hundred times on Netflix like myself. Movies with multiple intertwined storylines have become very popular lately, and I can’t help but think Love Actually deserves all the credit for the success of the style. It’s definitely a Christmas rom-com, but it really reminds you that love is everywhere! And the storyline of Sam, the young boy, is definitely the one that melts my heart the most!

3. The Santa Clause

Another classic movie. We always watched this when I was younger. And when the second and third came out, we bought those and added them to the shelf of Christmas movies. We’d usually only get halfway through the second one each year, so I can never remember what happens in the third one. But the first one, I have basically memorized end to end.

2. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

This is easily one of the funniest movies on the list! It’s one of those movies that are so dumb and ridiculous that they end up making you laugh out loud. This is the classic movie that my family watches every Christmas Eve together. It’s a weird tradition, but it makes it really feel like Christmas. And eggnog never looked so tasty!

1. How the Grinch Stole Christmas

I love love love this movie. It’s adorable and so iconic. Before the newer, Jim Carrey version came out in 2000 (wow I guess it’s not as new as I thought….) I can remember watching the original animated version from 1966 which is only about 20 minutes long. Either version, it’s a super festive movie that makes you appreciate the spirit of Christmas and being with your loved ones.

It should also be noted that I love anything on the Hallmark channel this time of year, no matter how cheesy the movies are. Every single one involves some type of forbidden romance or a girl who ends up falling for a guy she never thought would. Every single main character is a female who loves Christmas, who has lost at least one parent, and thinks that love doesn’t exist. They’re perfect for playing in the background during other holiday festivities like baking or decorating because they don’t require too much attention (and you can guess how they all end anyway!)

I hope you have a very merry Christmas and enjoy watching some of these festive movies with your friends and family! What are some of your favorite holiday movies?
