8 Girl Power TV Shows to Binge Watch

Hey guys what’s up? I don’t know about you, but I love a good empowering TV show. There’s nothing better than seeing a female-lead rock the small screen and lift up others in the process! My favorite type of TV almost always features unapologetic amounts of girl power, whether it’s set in a comedy or a crime drama.

The following are 8 awesome girl-power-filled TV shows to binge-watch the rest of the weekend:

1. Parks and Recreation (Netflix)

This is a Netflix classic, and if you haven’t seen at least a few episodes, you’re missing out on some serious comedy gold. Not only is one of the main characters, Leslie Knope, funny, but she’s an icon of female empowerment.

2. Girl Boss (Netflix)

This is a fairly new show to Netflix, and I watched the whole season in just a few days. It’s racy, often crude, and very relatable in the struggles of adulthood. We watch as main character Sophia makes her way creating and running her own business selling vintage clothing online.

3. Sex and the City (HBO)

Sex and the City is one of the all-time best girl-power shows! It features four women trying to make their way through their thirties in New York City. While it is ultimately focused on well, sex, the lessons they learn about life and the bond between the women is just about as empowering as it gets.

4. Grace and Frankie (Netflix)

I haven’t seen this show yet, but it’s on my list to watch next! Two women who seem to be complete opposites suddenly find themselves thrown together when they discover both their husbands are leaving them to be with each other. It looks super funny and definitely female-focused!

5. Girls (HBO)

This is sort of like a modernized version of Sex and the City, also featuring four friends in New York City. It’s definitely a little raunchier but it showcases a lot of the same issues about love, life and finding yourself. As the title says, this one is all about the girls.

6. Gilmore Girls (Netflix)

This is another Netflix classic that everyone should watch at some point in their lives. It’s a show about a mom and daughter who love coffee and giving each other advice. It’s a heart-warming show that’ll make you laugh and cry right along with the strong female characters.

7. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix)

Kimmy Schmidt is the ultimate happy-go-lucky woman. Despite being a victim of a doomsday cult and held in an underground shelter for 15 years, she still manages to have a positive outlook on life and uplift those around her.

8. The Mindy Project (Hulu)

Mindy Kaling is always fantastic, but truly shines in her own show she created and stars in. It centers around Mindy navigating a balance between her personal and professional life at an OBGYN practice in New York. As always she is hilarious and empowering!

I heard they cancelled it, but it’s still on Netflix for now and the one season is pretty complete on its own! As for Sex and the City, the episodes are hard to come by unless you have HBO! But it’s one of my all time favorite shows!

I love this list! One show I really love that has a lot of girl power in it is Marvel’s Agents of Shield, which my not be an obvious choice, but there are some pretty awesome kick-ass women in it!
